Did
you know that
a)
A long distance triathlete starts training an average of 4 to 5 months prior to
the event
b) The
athlete trains an average of 16 to 20 hours per week
c)
The distance trained per week for each category is an average of:
10
km of swimming
350
km of biking
65
km of running
d)
Many competitors complement their regular long distance training sessions with
other physical activities. The most common are strength training, yoga, stretching
and pilates. Others practice meditation or positive visualizations during their
training sessions to reinforce their physical and mental strength.
Some
issues to consider
In
some cases, athletes who participate in a long distance event for the first time,
underestimate the strength and training required for this type of activity. For
many athletes it takes three or more hours than they previously thought to cross
the finish line. Therefore, we encourage all new athletes to train accordingly
based on the intensity of a long distance event. We want everyone to be prepared
not only physically but mentally as well, to ensure a positive experience.
Dont
forget: Hydration before, during and after the event is key factor to accomplish
your goals!
Enjoy
your training and see you at the finish line!
